Special Events

Earth Day
Trail Mix participates in local celebration of Earth Day (April 22), a national observance that focuses attention on environmental issues. Trail Mix co-sponsors an Earth Day Fair at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Local organizations with an environmental or outdoor focus set up booths to explain to the public what they do and have to offer. We need volunteers to help coordinate and lead the day’s activities and to let the public know about Trail Mix projects and mission.

National Trails Day
The first Saturday in June has been designated by the American Hiking Society as National Trails Day. In past years, Trail Mix has organized various activities – hikes, picnics, trail dedication ceremonies, speakers – to celebrate. We need volunteers to coordinate and lead these activities.

Annual meeting
Each November, Trail Mix holds its annual meeting to elect new Board members, carry out business that requires affirmation by the membership, present a summary of the year’s projects, honor volunteers, and enjoy a presentation pertaining to the Juneau trail system. Volunteers can help organize this event or make a presentation.

Call Trail Mix (790-6406) or e-mail trailmix@alaska.com if you can volunteer to help with any of these special events.
